Notes for November 2024: Crop growth is slowing down, except for Christmas tree farms and if you live in southern California, southern Texas, Florida or along the Gulf coast where citrus are starting, and believe it or not, the blueberry and strawberry season in those areas is about to begin. See your state harvest calendar . This year, much of the country is still seeing mild weather, so lettuce, peas, broccoli, cabbage and other greens are thriving. And this is a good time to get a canner and learn how to preserve foods for the winter, like canning some applesauce, apple butter or jam, which make great gifts. As do your own homemade specialty liqueurs! How about homemade cranberry sauce or a pumpkin pie made from a real pumpkin for the holidays? At the end of the exit ramp turn left. Travel 23 miles to Forksville. Two miles past Forksville turn left onto Millview Mountain Road. The farm is 7 miles from that point. Open: The corn stand will be open generally from Noon until 6 pm all summer. There will be an "honor bucket" if no one is available to work the stand. Pumkin hours are all day on weekends and after 4 pm during the week throughout the month of October. Anyone wanting free pumkins after Halloween may stop and take as many as you would like. Sweet corn is available from the middle of July until September, as the weather conditions permit. Pumkin sales begin the first weekend in October and run through the end of the month. Wolf Ridge Blueberry Farm - Blueberries,
Firetower Rd, Mansfield, PA 16933. Phone: 570-662-7451. Open: July/August for blueberry season; 8 AM to 8 PM Wednesday through Sunday; closed Monday and Tuesday. Adults only. Directions: Call for directions. Payment: Cash, only.. Located about 3 miles off of Route 6 in Mansfield, PA. Directions: follow Lambs Creek Rd from the intersection at Sheetz and Route 6 until Lambs Creeks Rd makes a "y", bear right at the "y" onto Shaw Rd (dirt) (if you go over a little bridge, you've gone too far), and very quickly turn right onto Firetower Rd (dirt). Follow Firetower through it's twists and turns and the farm is on the right a bit after the road straightens out. This farm is well maintained (almost manicured), weeded by hand and has grass mowed short. The quiet, tucked away spot is a pleasant place to spend time picking.
A visitor writes on August 07, 2014: "The owners do have German Shepherds which they are very conscientious of and which are often secured, but the dogs are also very comfortable with the guests and pose no issue with pickers."
